Do you recognize the blog post pic ? Yes…the movie Ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters is a 1984 American comedy film directed and produced by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. It stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis as eccentric parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis co-star as a client and her neighbor, and Ernie Hudson as the Ghostbusters’ first recruit.
Ghostbusters was released in the United States on June 8, 1984. It received mainly positive reviews and grossed $242 million in the United States and more than $295 million worldwide. At the 57th Academy Awards, it was nominated for Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song (for the theme song). I was a teenager when I did watch the movie.
Today so many years later my daughter will do a Ghostbusters school act at her school party. Nostalgia… 🙂
On the 7th of May, an article on the news website VRT appeared with the headline “1 out of 5 Flemish families” do not have or barely have a financial buffer. 20% of the families do not have the money for a week vacation or unexpected expenses of 1000 euro. The numbers are higher for families coming from outside of the EU, little education background or single parents.
Do those people have the financial education I always wonder ? I understand that some families do not have the financial power to save money. But I once wrote a blog post
How to calculate your Financial Buffer?
When I travel, I sometimes ask people about their financial education and the number 1 rule being a financial buffer. People simply don’t know how to size their emergency fund.
So Sunday morning, time to reflect on our Kids Portfolio. We will grow this portfolio as an emergency fund for the kids. Are the dividends still coming in our kids bank account? How about the sectors and stock market sentiment ?
Market Sentiment and Sector Watch
Tomorrow is memorial day in the USA and the markets will be closed. Markets are consolidating the recent gains. It is hard to see where the market will go but the market sentiment is improving. All the boxes have green ticks.
The earnings season that is behind us had the highest percentage earnings beat since 2008. Earnings growth was at 24.6% …highest since 2010.
Let’s take a look at the Sector Watch. Here we look which sectors we should invest in and what is different compared to last month. We placed the latest Sector Watch graph below…This always you to make you your own analysis.
All Sector ETFs are improving and see an upward trend except XLU and XLP. The energy sector continued an upward trend.
In the Energy sector, the broker Lynx gave the tip this week Lyxor Russia ETF (RUS). Russia is benefiting from the higher oil prices and is more looking to cooperate with Saudi Arabia for oil production reductions.
They recommend to buy between €31.25 en €31.75. Target : 34,50 with a stoploss at €30.50.
Dividend Income Update
Now let’s take a look at the dividend income report of April 2018 for my kids’ portfolio!
During the month of April 2018, we received 99,37$ dividend income. 30$ less compared to last year monthly income.
Portfolio analysis and Growth Strategy
We started early 2017 with a starting amount of 10.000 EURO . The 2018 goal for my kids’ portfolio is to generate 1000$ in the total year. We achieved 23% of our yearly goal so far.
Going forward
The past weeks we worked out a strategy for hitting our yearly goal. We also started to execute options investing in our kids portfolio to generate more cash into this bank account. Dividend and options investing will be the strategy to generate more cash flow in this portfolio. Our goal is to set new MONTHLY RECORDS in this portfolio. 134$ was our highest cash amount so far…let’s beat it going forward !
Good luck with your personal finance strategy for your kids! Thanks for reading.
Putting money on a savings account for your kids is NOT a strategy to make it grow!
We hope you learned something from this blog post and keep on following us on Twitter and Facebook. As always we end with a quote.
