The New Year brings us all a fresh start – a clean slate – a new chapter of our life waiting to be lived out. A new year holds great promise for everyone. This is finally the new year that we will focus on a major breakthrough… this is the year that we focus on accomplishing our goals… this is our year. This sounds awesome, right ?

Last year we followed the 8 steps of Keith Rosen to define our goals for an extraordinary 2019. Keith states that most people set the wrong goals and never take time to celebrate their successes over the prior year. Before you begin your goal-setting mission, you need to start with self-reflection. Otherwise, when do you acknowledge your wins and how much you’ve grown? Doing so will ensure your new goals are aligned with your values and priorities to create your best year yet. Past weekend we reflected back on our achievements of 2019. 2019 was a special year in which I figured out how a specific traders skill can possibly turn your yearly salary as an employee into a monthly or weekly income as a trader. Does that sound crazy ? Yes it does.

We didn’t hit our passive income goals last year, but that didn’t bother me too much as my financial personal development in 2019 surpassed the financial 2019 result.

Common wisdom says we should be setting goals for ourselves. Not just any old goals, though — SMART goals. They are supposed to be:

  • S — pecific
  • M — easurable
  • A — ttainable
  • R — elevant
  • T — ime bound

Goals are, by their very nature, finite. They’re the medal at the end of the race.  Personally I prefer to place more emphasis on the journey. Achieving what you set out to do is the ultimate goal, but I love more the process of getting there.

Here’s the method I will use for the year 2020:

  • Step 1: Visualize. I will imagine our life at the end of 2020. Where do I  want to be? How do I want to have developed as a person? What level of success do I want to have achieved by then? Actually together with Mrs DividendCake, we created a VISION BOARD on our FUTURE achievements in life TOGETHER ! Both vision boards hang in our bed rooms and we see it every morning we wake up.
  • Step 2: Set goals accordingly. Below you will find our SMART goals
  • Step 3 : Set systems. Goals are great for having a long term vision. What gets you to those goals, though, is a solid system. A system is made up of repeatable actions you can take day in and day out which help you climb the ladder towards your goal. I have already figured out how I will get there and at the end of 2019, I started implementing a breakthrough lifestyle which takes me every time a bit closer to my goal.
  • Step 4 : Review, reflect and acknowledge. Because the journey of achieving a goal is often more satisfying than the goal itself, its important to be present along the way. The best way to do this is to set aside time to review our progress. In our blog we will reflect and take the time to look back at where we started and how much progress we have been able to make. That keeps us motivated and belief “I can do this”.

Our 2020 Financial goals

So here are our five 2020 financial goals

  1. Achieve a total of 15.000$ ACTIVE AND/OR PASSIVE passive income for the total year 2019. This year we won’t focus on a monthly income but only on our progress to OUR YEARLY goal.
  2. IMPROVE our forex trading skill and expand this trading skill to GOLD and INDICES trading strategies.
  3. Put my mom’s portfolio at work and generate at least a yearly 3.000$ passive income. This is LESS than last year but our cash position decreased after a payout to my mom. We will try to find a cash increasing strategy in my mom’s portfolio.
  4. START a new INVESTING STRATEGY for my foster child PORTFOLIO. In my kids portfolio we still have a nice cash position. Our YEARLY GOAL is 1200$ for the whole year.
  5. For the financial education of our sons, we will apply a NEW EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY to teach them financial literacy, entrepreneurship and a growth mindset. You will find out in February 2020.

Our 2020 Travel goals

In our life we focus on spending money on experiences instead of buying things. Travel is a perfect way to relax and learn new things. In 2020 we will continue to save money for our travel plans or local visits to interesting places in Belgium.

Here are our five travel goals

  1. 2020 will be different as this year we DON’T plan a vacation abroad. Our family will do a SUMMER VACATION in Belgium !! If many tourists visit Belgium, why wouldn’t we do a vacation in Belgium ?
  2. Visit this year three interesting spots in Belgium where kids can learn something and have a unique experience to remember. They don’t have to cost money to be great.
  3. Do ONE city break vacation in 2020 with one of the kids.
  4. Post a blog post of each travel or visit experience. Grow the popularity of the blog. In 2018 we had 53K visitors per month and we passed the 80K visitors per month in 2019. Let’s keep on growing this number.
  5. Inject the kids with cultural insights during our travel and teach them about history and other important facts in life. Write a travel chapter in their life story book.

DONE ! Ready with our goal setting for 2020. Now it’s time to put our plan in action to list our required actions for each of the defined goals to achieve success. We start to plan, prepare, collect information and execute throughout the year.

Final words

In 2020 we will purely focus on our FOREX trading knowledge and skill set. Our knowledge will be expanded with gold and indices trading. In 2019 in our Smartphone Challenge we managed to turn 400$ in 1,4 and 12 Million $ in demo accounts. Why wouldn’t we focus in 2020 to AT LEAST make 15.000 EURO income real money using this skill? Can we achieve more ? Absolutely ! I am convinced we can.

I love the journey and process of financial self development. Let’s make it happen and let’s make 2020 a BREAK THROUGH AMAZING year.

Stay tuned..
